Write Now!
No matter what anyone tells themselves, absolutely no excuse is acceptable for failing to write. Some call it “writer’s block.” Perhaps we should call it by its real names–excuse, lie, procrastination, sabotage. (I prefer mental constipation). If you want success, to write or not to write should never be the question. You must break through all resistance.
“Okay,” you think, “but how? My fingers are on the keys or holding the pen, and nothing is coming out.” Don’t tell me you can’t. If you can think, you can write. The following technique is easy, but complicated problems usual have simple solutions.
“Going with the flow,” is great advice—especially for writers. Why? The mind is an amazing computer often overloaded or out of memory, and it needs you to empty the trash— just as you do on your laptop or desktop. It won’t work until you do. When you fast write, the mind sweeps, sorts, and gets clear enough to go in the direction you want. Let flow words, phrases, names, nonsense, anything. Do this for as long as you need to cleanse. I suggest a five- minute limit. Now you are ready to write; in fact, you already are.
